Adopting a Cat or Kitten

Fees

Every cat in our care receives the highest standard of treatment. This includes medical services, premium food, vitamins, high-quality cat litter, heated beds, and more. To afford this care, we implemented adoption fees in January of 2011.

Adoption fees may vary depending on each cat. Many of our special-needs cats require extra care. In order to raise funds for these cats, some high-demand breeds such as Siamese or Persian are priced higher. All adoption fees are considered donations and are tax-deductable.

Fees for mixed-breed cats are determined based on the amount of veterinary care provided by SCSCR. For example, a cat that came to us previously neutered will have a lower fee than a cat that was neutered while in our care.

By charging these higher fees on some cats, we are able to rescue more cats with any extra money. We appreciate your understanding that in addition to saving the life of the cat you are adopting, you are also saving the lives of other cats in need.

What does the adoption fee include?

* Spay/neuter
* FeLV testing
* FVRCP-C vaccination
* Rabies vaccination (if old enough)
* Deworming
* 30 days of free pet insurance through ShelterCare
* Microchip

Some cats may be previously vaccinated, declawed, or microchipped by their previous owners.

Upon successful adoption of your cat or kitten, you will be provided with all necessary documentation, including veterinary records, vaccination history, microchip details, and insurance information.

Rules

All adopters must complete an informal interview and agree to meet with the cat they wish to adopt face-to-face. We believe in making the best possible matches between cat and family, and firmly believe this includes allowing the cat to be part of the adoption decision. We are very particular about the families our cats go to, and have set certain guidelines. We understand that your opinion may differ from ours, but appreciate your understanding.

Once a match has been determined, the adopter will sign an adoption contract and agree to all terms of adoption, which include: accepting all responsibility and care for the cat as a family member; declawing is strictly forbidden; notify SCSCR of any transfer of ownership or death of the cat; in the event the cat must be surrendered, it must be returned to SCSCR.
